Technology is advancing more and more rapidly. Every day, high-performance computers are becoming more powerful, network security systems get more sophisticated and new concepts such as IoT, AI and VR appear that have the potential to reshape entire industries. The main driving force behind all this progress is research and innovation.

However, as technology evolves, cybercriminals adapt and develop new ways to take advantage of the latest loopholes. That is why it is important for technology companies, thought leaders and experts to educate themselves continuously on these developing risks. A great way to stay up-to-date on the latest innovations is via attending tech conferences. These events bring together all the major players in the field and create opportunities to learn, discuss and explore new ideas. One of the forerunners of these events is the upcoming SuperComputing 17 (SC17) conference in the USA and Talaia, of course, is going to be there to shape the future of network security.

SC17 - the future of technical computing & data-driven science

SC17 is the premier international conference for high-performance computing, networking, storage and analysis. Every year it brings together leading scientists, engineers, programmers, system administrators, developers and researchers from all over the world to showcase the latest technologies and accomplishments. This year’s conference takes place in Denver, USA from November 12-17, 2017. Major technology companies, research organisations and universities will gather in Colorado to look at what the future of large-scale technical computing and data-driven science will look like.

Talaia at SC17

Amongst tech giants such as Google, Microsoft and Oracle, Talaia will be displaying their technology at the SC17 conference as well. Teaming up with Corsa Technology, experts in high throughput networking and developing high performance infrastructure, Talaia will present at the conference the results of their collaboration on network attack mitigation. Here is a brief rundown of the two participants and the project details:

Talaia is a leading network visibility and security provider in Europe. We offer a managed network security and visibility solution that doesn’t need any appliances or software downloads. Thanks to our SaaS solution, clients can get started creating secure cloud environments almost instantly. As a firm believer in research and collaboration, we frequently participate in network security conferences, form partnerships and join exciting projects with other industry leaders. A great example of this is the SHIELD project, where we work alongside Hewlett Packard Labs, Telefónica and other experts to create a new cybersecurity solution based on NVF.

Corsa Technology

Corsa Technology develops high-performance infrastructure to connect the world's biggest networks simply and securely. With switching, routing and enforcement equipment specifically designed to economically scale networks, Corsa is expert at high throughput networking. For more information, please visit

The project

To create a state-of-the-art network security solution that allows companies to scale out their network attack defenses, Talaia entered into a collaboration with Corsa Technologies for the development of next-generation Automatic DDoS Protection. With this new solution, once an attack is identified by the advanced anomaly detection engine from Talaia, we mitigate the attack by using BGP FlowSpec and REST from Corsa’s Red Armor devices. Currently the focus lies on volumetric attacks such as DDoS, DoS and network scans, but work is already underway to include other types of attacks in future.

At the conference, Corsa and Talaia will present the results of this collaboration in a demo where we will monitor a 100GB link of the ESnet network. ESnet is the world’s fastest science network, providing connectivity to more than 40 DOE research sites and moving 20 petabytes of data every month. We will show how Talaia’s platform, merely relying on NetFlow data, is able to identify ongoing attacks and communicate in real time with Corsa’s Red Armor NSE7000 devices to mitigate marching attacks.
